Sandfields Pumping Station is a unique heritage site; however at this moment in time its biggest problem is the lack of public support. To save this valuable site is not a complicated process, it does not need vast amounts of money, or does it need a vast amount of your precious time, but I does need a show of public support.
This show of support should be directed in the first instance at the people who job it is to ensure that the grade II listed building is maintained and the section 106 agreement is complied with.
In this instance it is Lichfield District Council
Lichfield District Council has a Conservation Team, and a Senior Conservation Officer; Debbie Boffin.

Lichfield also has a City Council
The Lichfield City Council play a major part in running Council Services. They say that they;
Play a major role in representing the voice of the City. We have made representations regarding, for example, the Local Plan and Structure Plan, rail services, postal services, parliamentary constituency boundaries.

Quite often projects this like this need far more then a physical presence, the knowledge that others would help if they could is very encouraging. I will keep updating this blog with any ongoing progress, feel free to chip in at any time, two heads are better than one.
Thanks for reply, will follow with great interest. All the best with yr quest, and thanks for bothering. 🙂

Roy & Brenda
Great News Roy and Brenda, I have sent you an email, and look forward to welcoming you onboard.
David, has the AIA been approached (I’m a member), and if so, what was their response? I was unaware of this place until I saw your pics on Flickr.
Hi Neville,
Thanks for your interest, but sorry for my ignorance but who is the AIA?
Thanks
Hi David, they’re the Association for Industrial Archaeology, and have some high profile members. I’ll do a search when I get a moment, and see if they’ve got it recorded anywhere.
Hi David, AIA have advised that a Mr Ian Bapty is familiar with Sandfields. I don’t know whether he’s known to you or not.
Hi David,
I’m interested in your project.I saw the engine on the SSW Open Day back in 1998 and it was impressive. It would be a great shame if it was lost.I should like to help if possible.I live near Barton Under Needwood.
Regards
Laurence
I just stumbled across this pumping station through a link from a stationary engine site. I am a huge steam fan with a small collection of real steam engines living in Sutton Coldfield, but strangely I have never heard of this station before, although I often visit Lichfield. I am a frequent visitor to Claymills pumping station in Burton Upon Trent but never realised there was another site in need, closer to me. It looks like I’ve just missed your most recent meeting but I am happy to do whatever I can for such a worthy cause. Please get in touch if I can help in any way.
Paul B.
